Is intermittent fasting compatible with strength training?

It can work for some people if total food intake and training quality remain adequate.

What evidence suggests

Reviews of intermittent fasting with resistance training report fat-loss potential and broadly maintained fat-free mass in studied groups. That does not show every fasting schedule is superior to ordinary meal timing or suitable for everyone.

If a short eating window leads to missed meals, low energy or worse sessions, it may not fit your current routine.

How to decide

Check whether you eat enough, include regular protein sources, sleep well and can train consistently. If fasted morning training makes you dizzy or weak, change the meal timing or eating approach. Fasting is not required for muscle gain or fat loss.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, an eating-disorder history, glucose-affecting medication or medical conditions call for individual advice first.
