Shrug Machine

How to adjust

  1. Load weight plates onto the posts at the base of the machine and secure them with plate collars.
  2. If the machine has height notches for the handles or a standing platform, pick the setting where you can grip the handles with your arms hanging straight while standing tall, without your shoulders already being pulled down.

How to use

  1. Stand into the machine, gripping the handles on either side at roughly hip/thigh height.
  2. Stand tall, shrug both shoulders straight up toward your ears.
  3. Pause briefly at the top, then lower under control.

Safety notes

  • Keep the movement a straight vertical shrug, never rolling the shoulders, which can strain the neck and rotator cuff.
  • Keep the knees soft; don't use the legs to jerk the weight up.
  • Secure the plates with collars.
  • To finish, or once your grip is slipping and no rep will come, lower your shoulders all the way until the plates settle back on the frame and stop moving before you let go of the handles and step out; don't hang on to a suspended load with a failing grip.
