Seated Calf Raise Machine
beginner · isolation
Setup
Sit into the machine and set the knee pads snug just above your knees, not on the thighs. Place the balls of your feet on the edge of the low platform with your heels hanging free. Pick a light weight for your first set.
Execution
- Lower your heels slowly until you feel a full stretch in the calves.
- Exhale and press through the balls of the feet, rising onto your toes as high as you can.
- Hold for one beat at the top, keeping the knees still under the pads.
- Inhale and lower under control over 2-3 seconds, without letting the pad bounce.
- If you run out of strength mid-set, lift your knees slightly to unweight the pad, slide both feet fully onto the platform, then use your hands to release the pad lever before standing up.
Breathing
Exhale as you rise, inhale as you lower. A steady rhythm lets you keep the reps high without holding your breath.
Quick cues
- Lower deep enough to feel the stretch.
- Drive through the balls of the feet.
- Hold one beat at the top.
- Knees stay put under the pad.
- A cramping calf ends the set.
Common faults
Fault: Using a shallow range, rarely lowering all the way
Fix: Lower the heels all the way on every rep before rising.
Fault: Bouncing at the bottom instead of pausing
Fix: Come to a full stop at the bottom and cut the load if it still bounces.
Fault: The knees lifting off the pad to help the push
Fix: Recheck the knee pad position and keep the knees fixed under it for the whole set.
Fault: The feet rolling to the outside edge at the top
Fix: Press evenly through the big and second toe, without rolling outward.
