Moving Claw Series
intermediate · locomotion

Setup
You need a flat, non-slip straight of about 20 meters. Jog easy for 5 minutes first, because this drill strikes the ground hard and cold hamstrings strain easily. Then start running at a moderate pace.
Execution
- While running, actively bend the knee and pull the heel up toward the glutes on every step.
- As the hip extends, snap the foot down fast and hard, landing right under the hip.
- Imagine the foot "clawing" the ground backward the instant it touches down.
- Keep your torso upright, arms swinging naturally opposite the legs.
- Maintain this technique for the whole distance, then walk back to rest.
- One set is 2-3 runs of 20 meters, about 20-30 seconds of drill running, walking back between them; once the foot strike loses its snap, stop.
- A sharp or unusual pull in the back of the thigh ends the drill for that session; do not try to finish the run.
Breathing
Breathe evenly with your running rhythm, without holding your breath.
Quick cues
- Pull the heel toward the glutes.
- Claw the ground right on contact.
- Land right under the hip.
- Torso stays upright.
Common faults
Fault: Landing with the foot reaching far out in front
Fix: Shorten the stride and focus on landing right under the hip.
Fault: Not pulling the heel high enough toward the glutes
Fix: Slow down and exaggerate the heel pull before speeding back up.
Fault: The torso leaning back while running
Fix: Keep the chest tipped slightly forward and the eyes looking ahead.
