Setup
Adjust the hip pad and the front chest/arm support to fit when bent forward at the hips to roughly a right angle. Place the balls of your feet on the platform edge, heels hanging free, hip pad snug just above your hips/lower back.
Execution
- Bend forward at the hips to roughly a right angle, bracing your torso securely on the front support, back flat.
- Lower your heels for a deep stretch.
- Exhale, press through the balls of the feet, and rise onto your toes as high as possible.
- Pause a beat at the top, then lower under control over 2-3 seconds.
- Keep a flat back and stay braced on the front support throughout; don't round the upper back to chase extra range.
- If you lose position or run out of strength mid-set, keep bracing on the front support, step your heels down flat onto the platform, and lift the hips out from under the pad only once your feet are stable — do not twist out sideways while loaded.
Breathing
Exhale as you rise, inhale as you lower. Keep the back flat and don't hold your breath while bent forward under load.
Quick cues
- Hinge at the hip, back flat.
- Brace firmly on the front support.
- Lower deep for the stretch.
- Drive through the balls of the feet.
- A twinge in the back ends the set.
Common faults
Fault: Rounding the upper back instead of hinging at the hips
Fix: Keep a flat back and hinge cleanly at the hip, bracing on the front support.
Fault: Bouncing quickly at the bottom stretch
Fix: Pause briefly at the bottom before rising.
Fault: Rocking the torso to help drive the weight up
Fix: Stay braced firmly on the front support and let the power come only from the ankles.
Fault: Cutting the range so the heels barely drop
Fix: Lower fully below the platform edge on every rep before rising.
