Calf Stretch, Elbows Against Wall
beginner · stretch

Setup
Stand facing a wall about half a meter away, resting both forearms against the wall at shoulder height.
Execution
- Step one leg back, keeping that knee straight, and press the heel down into the floor.
- Bend the front knee and lean your body into the wall through your forearms.
- Keep the back heel glued to the floor, feeling the stretch in the calf of that back leg.
- Hold for 20-30 seconds, breathing evenly, then switch legs.
Breathing
Breathe slowly and evenly while holding, without holding your breath.
Quick cues
- Back heel glued to the floor.
- Back knee stays straight.
- Lean in through the forearms.
- Hold the full 20-30 seconds.
Common faults
Fault: The back heel lifting off the floor
Fix: Stand closer to the wall or lean in less until the heel can stay down.
Fault: The back knee bending, which takes the stretch off the calf
Fix: Actively keep the back knee locked straight for the whole hold.
Fault: Only holding for a few seconds before releasing
Fix: Ease the lean back slightly and hold the full 20-30 seconds at a stretch you can tolerate.
