Body Tricep Press
beginner · isolation

Setup
Set a fixed bar in the squat rack at chest height. Stand a step or two back, grip the bar shoulder-width apart, and lean your body forward, arms straight, resting your weight on the bar.
Execution
- Keep your body rigid like a plank from head to heel, letting only the elbows move.
- Inhale and bend your elbows to lower your body toward the bar, keeping your upper arms at the same angle with the elbows pointing down at the floor.
- Lower until your forehead comes close to the bar, then stop short of touching it and never past what your shoulders tolerate comfortably.
- Exhale and straighten the elbows to push yourself back to the start.
- If your arms fade and you can't press back smoothly, step your feet closer to the bar to lighten the load or end the set.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower, exhale as you push back up.
Quick cues
- Body rigid like a plank.
- Elbows point at the floor.
- Only the elbows move.
- Forehead near the bar, never touching.
Common faults
Fault: The hips sagging while lowering the body
Fix: Brace the abs and glutes before lowering, and stand closer to the bar if it still sags.
Fault: The elbows flaring wide to the sides as you lower
Fix: Keep the elbows shoulder-width apart and pointing down, standing closer to the bar if they still flare.
Fault: The upper arms dropping with the body so the move turns into a push-up
Fix: Hold the upper arms fixed toward the bar and bend only at the elbows until your forehead nears it.
Fault: Letting the head drop forward first, rounding the upper back
Fix: Keep your eyes on the bar and your neck in line with your back the whole time.
