Balance Board
beginner · balance

Setup
Place the balance board on a flat, non-slip floor with a wall or sturdy support nearby.
Execution
- Step onto the center of the board with feet hip-width apart, holding a wall nearby if you are new to it.
- Fix your eyes on a point at eye level and stand tall through your spine.
- Let the board tip slightly and use small ankle and knee adjustments to find a level balance.
- Keep your knees soft rather than locked as you make those small corrections.
- Hold the balance for the planned time, breathing normally throughout.
- That planned time is 20-30 seconds a hold for a beginner, repeated a few times in a session, with a hand back on the wall the moment you need a lunge to stay up.
- Step off carefully when you finish, rather than jumping off.
Breathing
Breathe normally and steadily through the hold. Holding your breath stiffens the body and costs you the balance sooner.
Quick cues
- Eyes on a fixed point.
- Soft knees, ready to adjust.
- Small corrections from the ankle.
- Keep a wall within reach.
- Step off, don't jump.
Common faults
Fault: Locking the knees straight, which makes every wobble bigger
Fix: Keep a soft bend in both knees the whole time.
Fault: Overcorrecting with big lunging movements
Fix: Slow down and use small ankle-driven corrections instead.
Fault: Practicing in the middle of the room with nothing to hold
Fix: Set up next to a wall or sturdy table until the balance is solid.
Fault: Staring down at the board instead of ahead
Fix: Fix your eyes on a point at eye level across the room.
